From 2005 - 2010, I served as Editor of Briarpatch Magazine, an award-winning magazine of politics and culture. Fiercely independent and proudly polemical since 1973, Briarpatch offers original reporting, insight, and analysis from a grassroots perspective. As a reader-supported publication, Briarpatch is not just devoted to reporting on social movements — it’s committed to building them.
As one of two core staff, my work with Briarpatch included serving as Editor, Designer and Art Director, recruiting and overseeing editorial volunteers, and working closely with the Publisher on promotions, fundraising, readership expansion and ad sales. During my tenure, the magazine experienced significant growth in readership. The July/August 2009 issue received a National Magazine Award honourable mention for best single issue.
